There are plenty of people out in the world today who truly enjoy getting up and going to work for their employers. However, there are also plenty of people who wish they could quit their jobs and start their own businesses. In some cases, it may just be the right choice to make. Here are five reasons why you might want to seriously consider it.
#1 – You’ll Be in Charge of Your Own Future
These days, you see it all too often. Employees who have been with their employers for more than 20 years are getting fired just months away from their retirement, meaning that their pensions – and their livelihoods – are gone. Your true employers don’t even know your name, and more companies than ever are laying off their employees so that they can take jobs overseas. When you run your own business, these things are no longer concerns. You can save for your own retirement, and you don’t have to worry about getting laid off.
#2 – Technology May Eventually Replace You
In today’s tough economy, big corporations are looking for any possible way to generate more revenue. If they can replace you with someone cheaper, or even with technology, they will undeniably do so, and likely without even thinking twice. If you do a job that technology may someday be able to take over (and there are more of them than you might think), it’s time to get out of your current job and start your own business.
#3 – The Middle Class is Dwindling
Once upon a time – and not so long ago – it was the New Zealand Dream to be a part of the working middle class. In fact, if you’re about 30 years old or older, chances are good that your Dad went to work while your Mum stayed home to take care of you. These days, that is no longer possible. Even two working parents have a hard time managing the bills, mainly because the good-paying middle class jobs have been outsourced to other countries. Lost jobs due to jobs due to outsourcing is a trend that isn’t slowing down.
#4 – It’s Affordable to Start a Business
Although starting a business used to cost a small fortune, that is no longer the case. In some industries, you can get started with as little as $3000 to $5000 and be up off the ground in no time at all. Even if you don’t have that kind of cash available, you can find numerous ways to fund your business. They include crowdfunding, peer-to-peer lending, equity funding, and so much more.
#5 – You’ll Feel Better About Yourself
Going to work at a job that you don’t really like does little for your self-esteem. It’s the same routine – and the same salary – week after week, month after month, year after year. When you start your own business, you’ll have challenges to overcome. It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it, and in 20 years when you look back at everything you’ve accomplished, the sense of pride you’ll feel is unlike anything else in the world. Quitting your job might seem like a terrifying endeavour, particularly in today’s rough economy, however, by starting your own business, you’re securing your future and taking it out of the hands of big corporations who might just fire you, lay you off, or replace you with technology anyway.
